“A Human Being is not a waxen rubbing, a lifeless imprint taken from some great stony face. Rather he is a Minuteman or a dog soldier at liberty to use the inclinations of the past as he sees fit. He is free to perceive the matrix, and, within his limits, change from it. By seeing both the futility in trying to relive the old Life and the danger in trying to obliterate it, man can gain the capacity to make anew. His very form depends not on repetition but upon variation from old patterns. In response to stress, biological survival requires genetic change; it necessitate a turning away from doomed replication.” [“blue highways” ~ William Least Heat-Moon]

We are now in Page, Arizona, ready to get on with the coming days starting at the North shores of Lake Powell to meet the “Carbon Neutral Expedition” and then on to “The Overland Expo”. We will be without a connection for days on, and or lack for time for that matter to publish this Journal of ours as it has been for a while now. This is not a “magazine”… I do not write days on ahead for the sake of publishing “something”. So I decided I will just have photos of past days here for a bit, a couple entries maybe, and have my Dear Friend and Webmaster Brian do the posting. Today they are from Bisbee and the “Silverado Ranch” and are titled through the cursor. There will be then on photos of the Lower Antelope Slot Canyon, one of the most magical place I have hiked through, for the second time. I have a video done of us riding these narrow streets but the connection we have would take about 6 hours to upload into U Tube, it will have to wait.

While still in preparation this afternoon, mechanical and otherwise, I realize this is not “my cup of tea”. Meaning the schedule… Our pace has been about twice or three times as slow as it is now. I am now really feeling for anyone having short times to travel long distances. I think it is also a matter of “having” to make a decision as… we need to go “now”! It is as there is no time to think or breathe, as we have jumped into another dimension. Not ours anymore. The learning will never stop. Asking around today I am also realizing that we might never meet the Expedition itself, the end of the road planned where we would meet is one of the most difficult one around this area. Could it be we have come up 400 miles having to turn around for nothing? Nothing is ever for nothing, but we will find out on Monday since I will need to get on that road and judge it for myself. We might then on meet Tuesday evening instead.

What luck suddenly! Slow down Life said… The schedule is my own, I will myself direct those hands and numbers. Go to the Emergency room, do not pass go and only collect more medication. It had been coming on for a few days now, a re-emerging chronic kidney infection. Spirit will take care of me no doubt. It is Sunday and as I sit here in the Emergency room all is now quiet and again I can write. Writing, as unable to do so lately, has become an amazing addition to the present path we are on. It is not for it’s content value but it’s function value. Unable to do so these past couple days I now realize it is as breathing, eating, any other faculty present. It is an important aspect, a therapy as I always think I know rightly so, it defies drugs and drinking.

The news come back worse now. She has ordered a blood test and a CT scan as the uncertainty of a kidney infection. Could be something else. I don’t like the "something else" words. It is a small hospital and they are very nice, explanations are very coherent, all is well, Spirit is waiting outside, they are outdoor and dog lovers here, I am
lucky and in good hands. I have my I phone with me and keep looking at the few photos I have here of "The Oasis" while we are waiting for the results. Being away I now feel as it was my comfort zone. The road is however also comfortable, in a different way, exciting, adventurous, a need at this point of my Life I would and could not trade in. It is an amenity of a different definition.

The results are not of “something else” words. Here we go again, another round of 14 days of Antibiotics. Better get this out of the way now so we can be in Amado on Thursday, maybe even meet the “Expedition” on Tuesday night. Tired now, much pain, on to some real rest for the mind and the body.

Be well, always.

The Photos are really something. Very unusual and kind of strange in a way. Would love to be seeing them in the flesh. Take your meds and take care…
