We went for a little walk, Texas

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I think people would pay big money for living here. There is "Park Avenue", "Rodeo Drive", "Malibu" and so many that escapes me, and then there is "The Oasis Road". Terlingua Ranch around here, I read, is wanting to name the roads and if I can I will propose some, the ones right around us. If they could be Avenues, Drives, sometimes they sound better. "Spirited Road", "Lance Avenue"… that would all tie in with us very well. We just returned from a long walk this evening, we have been walking a lot, and this was just a few minutes ago.

With the 10,000 plus photos I have catalogued these past two years, just when I think any landscape is never going to surpass others and really attract much of my attention as some past ones, this happens, and I can even now say… right in our backyard. For the first time here I have started looking around me. My overwhelming feeling has subsided a bit allowing me to see better my surrounding and what a surrounding it is if one takes the time. It is not all flat, it is not all green and boring maybe as some might think! We even have some traffic on these roads.

I am still ignorant to their names and make as the same goes for all the colors blooming around here.

The daylight might be harsh, but the morning and evening hours are a daily gift here. Everything stops at Sunrise, always a great introduction to the day and the end of that day is the start of a Sunset, an event which takes a couple hours from the time when the sun looses its intensity. The show goes on and on getting more and more mysterious just when one thinks it might be over. Many "encores"! A brief intermission and soon the start of the night show, all characters slowly taking up their position in the sky.

Spirit is a new dog here! He does not walk anymore but turns out to be a jumping dog through the brushes. This is all new for him to be off the leash, only when I am around, and there has not been any change from being on the leash as he "acts" as being the master of the land. I actually think he walks me as his sights are set on my pace constantly turning around to make sure I am following him. I point as he points… listening to the silence and maybe a sound he hears not perceptible enough for my own ears. He is a happy dog here looking for shade at time or getting a sun tan at other times.

The glow of the Sun setting has been giving a golden hue here all around, it is the time when colors change to gold, the flowers pick up their intensity and just thinking of the fact that we have 1400 miles of these roads to travel on is in itself an amazing fact. I am finally having a chance to wear my breathable, waterproof tall boots which I have had for two years now and have stayed brand new! I think we are all set for the Life here… with also some good news.

Our wheel has arrived. Compliments of my Friend David, machined and designed to fit as an identical replica of the original wheel, with ABS ring and all, with the big difference of a more comfortable ride and a tire that will last 30,000 miles versus 3,000 miles at the most. It mounted in the few minutes it takes, an easy bolt on just as the original and this morning we have to take it to Alpine to have the bead sealed and plan our next excursion without worries of wearing down a tire too fast! The cost also on such tire? A third of the original! A win win situation. I have been waiting a very long time for this, reason for it being called "The Freedom Wheel".

Another great news is also the fact that we have been approved by the Phone Co to receive a phone line and Broadband. Our solar power will sustain the line. I do need to correct however what I wrote on the last Blog. I was wrong about writing to the fact that the Phone Co. has a grant to install new lines, as I stand corrected and quote "We borrow money for capex not unlike other small businesses and that money is repaid like any other loan." Great service and incredibly pleasant people to deal with. That is the "Big Bend Telephone Co." The bad news is… "Old Faithful’s" clutch is slipping in 5th and 4th gear, only when applying more than usual throttle as in uphills… inquiring about a good service dealership right now as close as possible, its cost, length it would take to fix it and seek some lodging as the cold night weather is here now making it hard to camp out for us.

RV

Life goes on here, timeless, the days are getting mixed up, the weather is perfect a I only need to take care of this mechanical obstacle that has arised before deciding where we are going throughout this big State while looking for a part time job near by if there is such a thing as nothing is too close.

Two years of Photography is finally in order on SmugMug… In "Your Favorites", in "States", some labeled "first year" and second year", now also "Texas the third year". Feel free to browse, you can even use the slide show mode and have fun.

Merchandise is also available through SmugMug. If you like to order a print all sizes are available as I store the originals myself considering the huge bandwidth needed to upload on the Gallery.

Help us keep the site alive. Please contribute…

Be well, always. Ara & Spirit

  1. Colorado Kid Says:

Ah, the wide open skies and what glorious sunsets! And now Spirit can be free, Ara, I bet there’s no way he would ever wander very far from you, after all you’ve done for him.

And now the days will wind slower for you guys, as you stay put for awhile and watch the earth turn. Winter’s peace to you both, thank you for being who you are where you are.
