“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery ~

Our last ride to “our” Mailbox…

It happens every time while packing on for the months to come. An indiscernible feeling I cannot put into words. The sense of cutting off the ties with this land that has harbored us these past months, our shelter for these colder times, Big Bend Flats, a space always welcoming us year after year. This season also welcoming Robin and her Audrey and Lovey. Our little Family. Of course we always miss this little piece of Earth that has become our Friend. It does not take long, only a few miles away and the knot in the stomach makes it’s appearance. And yet quickly the coin flips. Thursday morning, westbound. Finding again our pace will not be difficult, it has become second nature. We are taking the southern route toward Tucson first (what a surprise!) and then on after a couple days onto Death Valley. Back the following week it will be the Overland Expo weekend where I will be teaching 3 “one pan cooking” classes. Draw back? Daily meetings at 7:30am. Wonder if we really need to be there… Might get fired if we are not!

I have no new photos, not yet, we have not gone anywhere. Packing. Those have already been posted a couple times. The cameras are resting. One has just been cleaned, one will meet us in Tucson and one has been repaired under warranty by Canon, a good thing. Also will meet us soon. I feel as this is as good as any time to publicly thank my Sponsors which without, this Journey would not even be possible. We are riding on their kindness with also the hope that you will yourself support them, they are all good people, good proven products as I use 24/7, 365 days a year with no failure, some I cannot use but enjoy. Overland Journal, a great Outdoor Magazine unlike any other. Overland Expo, April First in Amado, Arizona. A great gathering of vendors, classes, movie showings, all for 2 wheelers and 4×4’s and more. Hilleberg for the best tents ever made, I don’t care what anyone says, it is my strong opinion, it has changed our Journey. More oil and more oil, Racer Parts Wholesale is our supplier with Red Line Oil, 247,000 miles on the original engine, the proof is there. SPOT, feeling secure while on the road, paved or not, web share maps, we could not be without one anymore. Smugmug, where as they say “your photos look better”, they have supported us since day one and I am very grateful to them. Riders Discount, so much great gear, street and dirt, I have never been able to finish looking at their website! Motorcyclemaniac Store where all my tires have come from. Incredible service and knowledgeable staff. Gear Pods is new on board, you will just have to check it out, best thing since sliced bread, in my book anyhow. Ziploc bags have never lasted, these will. My bags have to be durable and waterproof, Wolfman bags have been the best. One of our winter shelter with wood stove, flooring and all has been a Montana Canvas Tent as it is actually staying up for these months away. Lens Rental, taking care of my cameras months after months as they are subjected daily to all the elements. U Ship, when needing just about anything being transported throughout the country. Motorcycles included of course, they work with a vast network which will bid on your needs. Many Friends of mine have used them with great satisfaction. Touratech, a household name, once for off-road motorcycles, now also for the ones riding the black top. The outmost quality components. I myself sponsor Expedition-Awareness. My Friend Phil and his Family raising awareness for ALD. You will have to read his page to understand his reasons of big concern for his own Child and many others. Global Garage Flooring Design, no, we do not have a garage, but if we did they will be the one designing it. Motorcycle Helmets, a great site for the reasons to wear a helmet. Rugged Rider, making motorcycle accessories one at the time. True quality and great designs.

Last but not least always “many thanks”, which will never be enough, for my Friend Brian who has for the past 4 years donated his time to the behind the scenes of this Journal. And no, you cannot have his website address! A deep appreciation also for the readers that have contributed toward the expenses to keep these pages going.

Back to packing now.

"I have had a great deal of interest in my photography over the years, for which I am grateful. Their sales are of much importance funding this Journal. Yes, please feel free to purchase one or two… or a few. I have been adding some photos lately, there will be more as I sift through about 100,000 of them. My “Zen Gallery” is an easy one to navigate on. Take a look. For merchandise also “Smugmug” stands for quality. For contributions to defer the always rising Internet costs please use the toolbar above.”

    Hey you,

Catching up with you writings as it continues to rain in LA. Love your quotation. One of my favorite books of all time. Do you know Dad’s advice was to read the book every 5 years in your life. He said there is always something to learn from the “Little Prince”:) Continue to be amazed at your photos.

    Love
