Just a bunch of old buildings, and a recipe… OR

Yesterday was a half fun and half furnace heat ride to Boise! Being a firm believer of ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time) it was quite a treat to stop often on the way back and put on a HOT riding jacket!!! Nothing like it… Finally started pouring down some water inside of it… same for Spirit who sometimes just will not drink for hours. The crew at Big Twin BMW as usual is still the most pleasant one I have ever encountered. Fred… Peter… thanks again one more time! The ride over at 6am was great… cool… it was the return mid day that just took the wind out of our sails, specially going through Hells Canyon again. Justified name…

We did finally gather up some energy today to ride a few miles to a ghost town called Cornucopia which you can see on the map. Great gravel road as they all are in this area. All the forest roads that you see are rideable with no difficulty and the map is just a portion of it. I have delayed our outing to GP Suspension to have the front shock fixed till Monday, so we are taking it easy as far as the distances traveled daily.

The plan is to leave Sunday and spend the night in Oregon City just a few minutes from the shop, will return here Monday evening. The freedom to put on as many miles as desired! Funny how we can be subjected to restrictions at times… I am already looking forward Tuesday!!!… even the return Monday…

Just a bunch of old buildings I wrote! I think you will like this website of what remains of the town… turn your volume up and you will get into its mood! Main street… all is left is dirt and a few abandoned buildings… a town that found $20 million dollars in its guts! Over 1000 miners since 1885… Many saloons, gun fights… I was standing on the steps of where it all happened. Imagining all what was going on just a few years back as the town totally died in and around 1970…

The miners as the gold faded, had left much earlier. Eerie feeling being there with the silence filling in, tire tracks from visitors and hikers… did not see a cemetery. Many “no trespassing” signs, “private property”… there is a very small lodge near by, wonder if a private group will ever do anything with the town.

It was a great road going up, the temps of course where cooler… the new tires feel good, the front shock does not! We took it easy…

This is… don’t laugh please… my rain hat. Yes, have you ever walked in the rain with water dripping down the back of your neck? Well, the Chinese design of this hat is very smart, except I preferred you would see “poor” Spirit wearing it! I think he has had it… seriously… I’ll post some other pictures of him also where he is just standing still, head down as… lets get it over with! I think he wants to take over this Blog and the Camera… so I have to be careful. I caught him trying to get his own e mail address a few days ago…

With all this fresh produce around here, I made a salad a couple days ago… The meat, which is not even needed, are pork chops, breaded and pan fried in butter. The salad has… cut up peaches, fresh corn, diced tomatoes, mandarin segments, cut up pineapple, black beans, garbanzo, beans, cilantro leaves, the juice of two lemons, one lime and about three tablespoons of olive oil. Awesome taste, fresh… you might think odd but is not. Will keep refrigerated for up to three days and will even taste better on day two and three. Skip the onions and garlic if you are thinking about it…

Enjoy… and be well…

Laugh at the hat? No way….I was too busy laughing at the Crocs. Seems like everyone loves them except me – I need arch support and leather. LOL!!

I remember riding across OR on a scenic highway that went through John Day area. Lots of those old cabins, tons of history. Really does take you back.

    Once again, thanks for sharing!
